In 2005, Nickelodeon aired an animated fantasy-adventure series called Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series won many awards, and received high praise and positive reception. The series soon stormed the nation, becoming one of the top animated series of Nickelodeon. In 2010, a live action movie dubbed "The Last Airbender" was spawned, but to much lesser reception. For many Avatar fans, this was a let down for many reasons. For a moment, fans were left wondering if the Avatar series would be left to die with the live-action film. It has been confirmed however, that the series isn't quite over yet.

Although the creators of the show had plans to leave the show at its finale, the success of Avatar: The Last Airbender caused not only fans, but Nickelodeon executives to ask for more episodes. Avatar: The Legend of Korra is a new animated spin-off series confirmed to be released in 2011. Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the writer and director of the original series, are confirmed to be "involved" in The Legend of Korra, however it is unknown if they will once again pair up as they did with Avatar: The Last Airbender.

This new series has been confirmed to take place 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and will center around a girl named Korra, the next Avatar after Aang.

Nickelodeon executive Brown Johnson describes Korra as a young, passionate, fearless hotheaded teenage girl "ready to take on the world," contrast to the carefree antagonist of ATLA, Aang.

Any other information released has been pure speculation at this point, however the series is confirmed to be in the works, and will release sometime in 2011. Avatards wait no more, your wishes are granted!

it makes em sad though, that Aang only lives to about mid-fifties or so though... I wonder what happened!
