Just recently, TMZ released a two and a half minute video showing clips from a pilot episode featuring eight Asian house mates (four male, four female) starring in a reality TV show that's supposedly "an Asian version of Jersey Shore," and is also going to "show Asian Americans like they've never been seen before to the rest of the world."

Now, I don't know how I appear to the rest of the world, but I'm certainly not as exciting as these young folk. The pilot's preview shows these young individuals partying "'til the sunrise".

For those that are unaware, I've spent my life surrounded by true Asian culture. I grew up in Asia when I was younger, but even when I came back to the states, my family made sure I knew I where I came from. Since as early as I can remember, my parents kept reminding me of the importance of my heritage. Even so, they couldn't possibly protect me from the American culture that lay close ahead of me.

At school, my most fond memories were being made fun of for my, more or less, small eyes, and my odd accent that I floated around, having learned English much later than the other first graders. Eventually though, I adapted. I overcame my accent, among other obstacles, and before long I had successfully integrated myself into American culture. By the time I was in middle school, my father started calling me a "Banana" Yellow on the outside, yet White on the inside.

I consider myself a true Asian American, and while I take pride in both my heritage and my country, I can't help but get frustrated at how that idea is being polluted by the media's outlook of Asian Americans. Since when did we become party whores, bad drivers, or loud mouthed home wreckers that urinate in empty plastic bottles?

K-town promises to "do for Asians what Jersey Shore did for Italians." In other words, it promises to turn Asians into the next Snooki for the world population to laugh at.

To top this all off, the pilot's preview has the cast singing along their own version of Ke$ha's Tik Tok. Just when I thought the song couldn't get any worse... Well, let's just say that it was beyond what Auto-Tune could do for Ke$ha. Above an atrocious sound, the lyrics were more or less a disaster with lines like "Wake up every morning like FML, the hell I do last night, at least I'm not in jail.", and, "I laugh really loud, DJ turn my speakers down", and my personal favourite, "Room to room is where I go, I am VIP, but when the bottles are empty, who wants to go pee?"

I'm up for an Asian stereotype or two every now and then, but I really think K-town will hit gold exploiting the depths of drunk Asians sexing each other up on T.V. In their defense though, they probably didn't have a lot to drink, they're probably just drunk because as Asians, their drinking tolerance is close to zero.

Wow, that's pretty dreadful.

About the "do for Asians what Jersey Shore did for Italians" bit...do the producers actually think Jersey Shore painted a positive portrayal of Italian-Americans? Really?
