With the second Witcher game coming out one week from now, I'd figure I'd go a little fanboy and tell you all about this game.

It's a dark fantasy world, filled with political strife, rampant drug use, and simply soaked with racism. The humans pretty much detest the Elves, the Dwarves, and the dryads, and in return, they all pretty much hate the humans. There are of course exceptions, but on the whole, "otherness" doesn't get you far in life.

Within this world, there is a group of highly trained, genetically modified warriors known as the Witchers. Despite their name, they get along rather well with Witches, unless provoked. To be more accurate, they're professional monster-killers. Which this world has plenty of, ranging from undead, like Ghouls (and various subtypes) and Vampires (more subtypes) to Ifrits, wyverns, and even curse-born Echinopsae, a man-devouring poisonous plant creature.

You take the role of Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher of some renown, thought dead for 5 years. Apparently, it isnt the case.

Added a new Launch trailer. One of several for The Witcher II <333

:icame: so hard.

It seems pretty neat, like something I'd want to play, but the price is a bit steep for me atm...

and of course I wouldn't get the TF2 items if I buy it later when the price has come down, so that makes me sad.

I was really surprised when I saw that The Witcher was getting a sequel, and especially so far down the road. My brother got it a few years back (The toned down American version, unfortunately) and I enjoyed the unique fusion of gameplay styles thrown into one game. But something that puts together many elements into one is bound to find some pitfalls, and in the first game, one pitfall that kind of bugged me was weapon selection. It didn't quite click for me in the sense department to have so many weapon types and slots when in reality you only needed two. I didn't spend an awful amount of time with the game on the whole, but it still seemed like an entertaining enough single player game to burn out time and play through a story. As for the sequel, like I said, I was surprised when I first caught wind of it-- in GI more specifically-- and now that they've had time to access the first games weak points and move into a more modern approach, I have high hopes for it.

Ashura : (07 November 2010 - 06:54 PM) Well, as a karate expert I think going back home every weekend would do you some good.
Sophos : (07 November 2010 - 06:54 PM) The hell does that have to do with karate?
Sophos : (07 November 2010 - 06:55 PM) And since when did you become an expert?

I was surprised as well. But I enjoyed the first game (I have the uncensored edition. :D Director's Cut Patch allows us 'Muricans to get access to the Tig Ol' Bitties and other assorted profane goodness.) and I agree with you. The weapons were more or less "useless" other than your two swords. That said, I still enjoy whipping out my 2 handed axe, or my flail and just beat the stuffing out of Drowners.

I saw Lewis of the Yogscast on Youtube do some gameplay for this game. Looked pretty sweet to me. What really stood out to me was the swordplay. Granted, I haven't gotten the game myself yet because I've been too busy, but it looked to me like you actually had to think about what you were doing with your sword as opposed to it being just another button-mashing hack and slash. Found that kind of refreshing. I thought the shields the soldiers had were something a lot of games lacked.
If everything was possible,it would be impossible for something to be impossible.

Yeah....On Normal difficulty alone, if you rush in and try to hack and slash/ God Of War your way through things...

You'll die.

Repeatedly.

Forever more.

It gets easier later when you learn a certain skill in the Swordsmanship skill tree (much easier) that lets you damage multiple opponents in a group with a single swing, but you do have to think things through.

See a guy with a shield? You can try to roll past his sword swing and jab him in the back, but thats not gonna do too much.

So...You can either use the Yrden Sign (Trap sign) to freeze him in place, leaving him vulnerable until it wears off, or you can use the Aard Sign (think Telekinetic Push) to knock him off balance. Both will give you a window to rush in and slash the man open.

Yeah, sounds like a refreshing amount of swordplay strategy. I'll have to pick it up after I finish LA Noire
