So I'm having an argument with my Middle School English teacher/Mentor about this...

According to me "local news depress me" is correct, and according to her "local news depresses me" is correct....

Grammar Nazi forum... Which one is wrong and which one is right, and why?

Help me prove my ex-teacher wrong please...

"News" is singular, so your teacher is right.

Even without knowing the ins and outs of grammar, "Local news depresses me" just sounds right.
