Well, if you want to do sigmaking (or graphic design in general), you should look at some tutorials and guides. You'd be surprised at how much can go into the most basic composition. This one in particular is super duper excellent:

I definitely like version two more than version one--it's got a bit more to it, and I like the idea that you made it look like he was kicking some glass and breaking it or something. :3 The text I actually like, the arrangement is cool and the placement is good--though I think you could've made it a bit bigger.
The actual manipulation on the stock itself is a bit odd. I respect that you're trying effects and everything, but it took me a while to make things out--and even now, his position looks a little awkward/hunchbacked. It's fine to modify the original picture--encouraged, even--but make sure you're not overpowering it too much.
The background seems a bit bland too--try playing with textures, smudging, and filters.
Overall though, considering you said you've been away from sigmaking for a long time, it's not bad! Looking forward to see how you progress. =]
