The Kingdom Key Forums: So. I made a book cover over the weekend. - The Kingdom Key Forums

For my 2D design class. We were to make a Book cover OR a CD cover OR a game cover.

I decided to do a book cover, after my first and second ideas (the second of which was a book anyhow) were shot down due to some idea called "Copyright issues."

The first idea was a game cover called "BEEF MARINES" where I get characters who look like they bathed in steroids from infancy and happened to be soldiers from games and plaster them all on the same case. Nope.


The second idea was to take the Sniper from Team Fortress 2 and make a book "Detailing his rise to greatness" called "Tales of a Jarate Master". I really wish I could have went along with it, because I loved it so. I had the jar of Jarate (sniper's urine) already drew up from a day I was bored. Plus I woulda had a chance to use this image...




But again, nope.


SOOOO my third idea, the one I made, is simply titled "The Gamer's Guide to Living" as envisioned by a shut-in gamer.

My head hurts, but I like the end result. I just wish I had some pens lying around, instead of simply sharpies. But the end result...Well, I'm contented. I'll see if I can post up some pictures over the next few days... My camera's terribad and makes everythin blurry, even when I say FOCUS YOU WHORE, FOCUS...!!..Maybe I'll borrow my friend Tom's camera to take the pics..

BEEF MARINES would've been good too. For some reason though I can imagine a Doom marine covered from head to toe in greasy meat. And the title. Just... in all caps. Just like that. With a few explosions on the cover. And two meaty Doom marines doing a tuck-and-roll away from the explosion. Maybe "BEEF MARINES", while in all caps, could have that cheesy 3-D effect that pretty much all action movie titles have, as if they're coming out at you. You need a few helicopters too. And guns. Lots of guns.


...anyway, looking forward to it.

copyright issues... that's BS. I used the fucking cover from Batman: Arkham Asylum in my digital arts class for cheesus' sake.

As long as you aren't claiming the intellectual (or actual) property of whoever it is as your own and are not making a profit from it... I don't see how there's an issue.

Also you know how much I want Tales of a Jarate master to happen... I say you do it anyways. write the damn book as well, not just the cover. IT WILL BE A MASTERPIECE!

I think it's stupid you couldn't use Sniper. If I know Valve, they most likely wouldn't mind at all if you did it, long as you weren't getting money off of it. Hence all the TF2 Gmod videos on Youtube already.

I'd like to see the end result if you could get a picture, though.

FYI, the 2D design teacher shoots down every (good) idea we have. I've been turning really mediocre are and getting a's.

To be fair, fanart existing at all DOES break copyright. Anytime anyone makes a fanart and posts it online, that's infringement. The thing is, companies don't really care, for the most part. But if Nintendo came out tomorrow and said "no one is allowed to make Pokemon fanart anymore," sites like dA would have to take down all of their Pokemon fanart.

But it is dumb your teacher wouldn't let you use it. It's just a class.
