Interesting article from the Huffington Post about different characteristics of users of different email services. I find it funny that for all four of the different emails, typical users are not religious.

Anyway, I use Hotmail, so...

Hotmail users are most likely to be young women of average build ages 18-34 (and younger) who have a high school diploma and are not religious. They tend to be politically middle of the road, single, and childless. Hotmail users live in the suburbs, perhaps still with their parents, and have traveled to up to five countries. They mostly read magazines and contemporary fiction, have a laptop, and listen to music via MP3s and computers (but they don’t have a DVR). At home, Hotmail users lounge around in a t-shirt and jeans. They’re introverts who prefer sweet snacks and like working on a team. They consider themselves more pessimistic, but sometimes it depends on the situation.

Most of this is true for me. Definitely the most accurate of the four to describe me.

What about you guys? What email do you use, and does the description of a typical user of that service fit you?

I have accounts with Yahoo, Hotmail, AIM, and Gmail, but Gmail is the one I use for personal/professional emails as well as using mainly for my internet adventures.

But... link to the article? xD

Gmail users are most likely to be thin young men ages 18-34 who are college-educated and not religious. Like other young Hunch users, they tend to be politically liberal, single (and ready to mingle), and childless. Gmail users live in cities and have traveled to five or more countries. They’re career-focused and plugged in — they mostly read blogs, have an iPhone and laptop, and listen to music via MP3s and computers (but they don’t have a DVR). At home, they lounge around in a t-shirt and jeans. Gmail users prefer salty snacks and are introverted and entrepreneurial. They are optimistic or pessimistic, depending on the situation.

Red = fits

So pretty accurate, aside from the whole man thing.

I always use Yahoo! and my student email, but the student one doesn't count since it's forced on me.

Quote

Yahoo! users are most likely to be overweight women ages 18-49 who have a high school diploma and are spiritual, but not religious. They tend to be politically middle of the road, in a relationship of 1-5 years, and have children. Yahoo! users live in the suburbs or in rural areas and haven't traveled outside their own country. Family is their first priority. They mostly read magazines, are almost equally likely to have a laptop or desktop computer, listen to the radio and cds, and watch TV on 1-2 DVRs in their home. At home, Yahoo! users lounge around in pajamas. They're extroverts who prefer sweet snacks and like working on a team. Yahoo! users are optimistic or pessimistic, depending on the situation.

I'm not really over weight (about 6 pounds, so I wouldn't consider myself over weight), I am spiritual, I'm awful in relationships, politically apathetic, I've been to six countries, I love my family, I mostly read magazines (also classical literature when time allows), love my DVR, I can't get enough sugar, I see the situation as it comes, and as I'm typing this I'm lounging in sweat pants. Because I just changed out of my pjs. I also prefer to listen to the radio over the ol' iPod.

Pretty close, I think.

Pretty inaccurate on my behalf. I suppose the information gathered from which email service people use can be accurate, but it's a little laughable to maybe think that those traits are actually correlated to the choice in email service. I use hotmail because it's a free, non-ISP related email service :|

Red = accurate.
Really inaccurate, for the most part, especially the part about being an extrovert and working in teams.

Hm... I don't know, Lizzy. The Huffington Post is a pretty intelligent publication...

Red = accurate, as people above me have done. Pink for like... sort of, like on the college thing, I mean, I'm in college currently, so...

Not completely accurate, but surprisingly close considering it's just based on your email service. xD I only picked Gmail, because at the time I was using Firefox, which had a new mail notifier add-on for it, which AOL did not. :|

Figured I'd go through and say what's right and wrong in mine as well. Same as Beebs- red is right, pink is kind of right.

Well, technically I'm still childless. XD I'm economically conservative, but more socially liberal, but I'm registered Republican. And I used to be a LOT more pessimistic than I am. I do try to be more of an optimist. But yeah... this is pretty accurate for me.

And I chose Hotmail just because I prefer it to other email services. :kanye:

Gmail is fairly accurate, except for the thin part, and I do have a DVR. XD

though I have accounts with all 4 as well. :D

also, only one of them is likely to be men, and it's the one of the 4 I use least. :kanye:

I'd guess live is hotmail.

What my Knights.ucf.edu email says about me:

College student, either male or female, most probable to be within the ages of 18-23. Childless, most likely to be carrying a back pack or bag with books in it, and owns a laptop. Wears headphones while walking around to listen to MP3's, spends 30 extra minutes in midday looking for a parking spot and has enough old books lying around to fill up amazon.ca.

That's pretty accurate to me. D:

Literally the only thing that is wrong about that is the iPhone thing (I really don't like Apple), the college-educated part, and the living in the city part, although the last two will be true by the end of the year. Literally everything else is spot on.

On the other hand, AOL users are the only one of the bunch to classify themselves as unmitigatedly optimistic.

If they're still using AOL, they'd have to be.
