I followed Misty's tut on her 'i love the valley' sig as roughly as I could. I couldn't do an amazing smudging job like she can, but hey; I'm learning.

:haha:

Well anyway, deffs a nice result. :]

As far as suggestions for improvement go, the most apparent thing is how it feels a little flat. If you play around with the (godly) Dodge/Burn tools a bit, you can make it feel much more three dimensional. Here, let me show you the difference it can make:

(this of course was a very fast job, you can make it look better)
I actually kind of really love the text though. I think it looks like a paintbrush stroke, very creative. :] Placement could be worked on it, but it's still quite lovely. The effects you have are nice too, but I'd like to see some covering the stock towards the left.

I was mainly going for the smudging, since that one had the most hands-on smudging in the Resource Pack that I looked at. And I really liked that sig anyway, so I had to try it.
I might start over with a different stock, and maybe even a different color[s].

The tut does say to use the effects and layers and such with adjustments, but I didn't really like how they came out to my liking.

Thank you, I'll work on it; maybe. xD

Smudging is really just something you need to play around with. There's really not a single thing I can suggest for you to do the "right" way. I mean if you take all the designers here that have found and tinkered their own style of smudging you'll get different results all around. Some examples (sorry if I'm putting anyone in the spotlight)

all of those used smudging as a primary effect but as you can see, though we all used the same smudge tools, and for the most part the same settings, we all somehow got different results.

Smudging is just one of those things you need to play around with to find your own style that you like. :)

I love that tutorial, and I see you've got some nice effects there. Though, I really think some adjustments can do wonders, and so would some dodge and burn as misty stated. And the stock could use a bit of sharpening. But Rissy, this shows you've improved a great deal.
