5th Generation of Pokemon announced.
#1 Posted 08 February 2010 - 06:58 PM
They've released a silhouette of the first of the new pokemon, which will be featured prominently in the next movie in Japan, and it will be officially revealed in a week or two...
this is kinda blowing my mind a bit, considering this is the first generation to ever be introduced on the same system as the previous, which means that there should be able to be trading between games... but probably something similar to what existed in 2nd gen, where you could only trade old pokemon that exist in both generations...
here's a link to what Serebii has so far, which is little to nothing yet. http://www.serebii.net/generation5/
it seems really soon for us, because we still don't have HGSS, but Japan has had them for about 5 months now, and there will be at least a full year's time between releases... and I honestly think it will be pushed back to an early 2011 release in Japan, so like September-November release here.
thoughts? concerns?

... God I feel like an old man. "BACK IN MA DAY THERE WERE ONLY ONE HUNDRED FIFTY ONE O' DEM POKERMANS! AND THEY DIDN'T LOOK LIKE ROBUTZ NEITHER. OH I REMEMBER THOSE GOOD OLD DA - OH GOD MY HIP"
And to be honest, with the younger generations being introduced to the newer generation Pokemon, I wouldn't be surprised if you try to tell a kid about Pokemon such as Lugia and Mewtwo, and they would say, "Pfft, those have to be Fakemon."
To which I would proceed to throw a brick in their face. And laugh.

Actually, Mie, my little cousins are really into these new Pokemon. When I talk about the Pokemon I used to watch, they have reactions similar to that. XDD "HUH? WHAT? What's a Cubone? O____O;;" I showed them my Pokemon Blue version and they were amazed at how prehistoric it was.

yeah boii. 8D

Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty lenient when it comes to the newer Pokemon, but I really do miss the days when it was just the the Kanto and Jhoto generations. Those were the best batches of Pokemon there were.

Also, am I the only one calling for Nintendo to try and innovate the game mechanics a little bit more? I figured the franchise would've gone under some sort of reinvention by now, but the core gameplay is still basic rock-paper-scissors turn-based RPG. The system has barely changed at all. The only mechanic that's been added at ANY point is the addition of doubles battles. Other than that, everything down to perspective and interface is the same. This system of static, menu-based interfaces and fighting almost entirely based on numbers has been outdated since Final Fantasy X. I never want to see it again. I will not buy another game that employs such a stagnant and repetitive battle system.

^Beebs is pretty cool, I guess.^
Respect lists aren't my style.

However, I do agree that Nintendo really should have taken a different approach at battling come this time around. Sorry, but Double Battles and Beauty Contests don't make up for the fact that you've kept the same battle system for 14 years now. It wouldn't even be that bad if there were other largely developed games (Pokemon Mansion doesn't count -_-) that used other battle mechanics. Its just the fact that you have no other options that pisses people off the most. This was largely accentuated in Pokemon Stadium, a game most everyone has played or at least watched. Anyone who has played that game knows its fun for about 10 minutes. That's because ALL that fucking game is Turn Based battling.
Like I said, Pokemon has changed, and sometimes that means it didn't change. Evolution in a series is a normal and necessary part of video gaming that Nintendo just doesn't seem to get with one of its most successful franchises.
But sometimes they don't make sense.
Refrigerator.

Yes. That is Stephen Colbert swinging around with Spiderman. No, I did not draw it. Some guy from Marvel did.
Cheers!!
Hope to return one day...

Then again, I haven't played anything since generation 2. I guess I'll get more of an opinion on this from the system in HG/SS.

Don't see any news articles about them releasing the rest of gen V, and while a lot of them look legit, there are sprites here and there that appear to be a completely different style.
Also, Zorua and Zoruark's sprite colors don't match their official artwork colors.

And I only am scared of one of them...
JYNX EVOLUTION.
Damnit! It's fake?

For the most part, I'm alright with evolutions of pre-existing Pokemon. They usually don't get too bad with those (except Rhyperior. What the hell).
