Apparently, there is a new generation of games coming out SOON. From what I understand, the plan is for late 2010... which is remarkable considering HeartGold and SoulSilver came out just in September... but Diamond and Pearl, which marked the beginning of Generation 4, came out in 2006... so there's be a 4 year gap, like usual.

They've released a silhouette of the first of the new pokemon, which will be featured prominently in the next movie in Japan, and it will be officially revealed in a week or two...

this is kinda blowing my mind a bit, considering this is the first generation to ever be introduced on the same system as the previous, which means that there should be able to be trading between games... but probably something similar to what existed in 2nd gen, where you could only trade old pokemon that exist in both generations...

here's a link to what Serebii has so far, which is little to nothing yet. http://www.serebii.net/generation5/

it seems really soon for us, because we still don't have HGSS, but Japan has had them for about 5 months now, and there will be at least a full year's time between releases... and I honestly think it will be pushed back to an early 2011 release in Japan, so like September-November release here.

thoughts? concerns?

I really can't wait for this. The date does seem a little early to be released though. Maybe it will come out the end of this year. That would be great.

You could trade between gen 3 and 4 though. And maybe the game will be released DSi exclusively. Kind of a new system. (Basically a PS2 compared to PS1)

The new pokemon looks pretty cool. I have no idea what is can be related to if its an evolution though. I see Shiftry, Garchomp, and Lucario in that. 0_o

I would like a game where you could catch all current generation and go through all the current region. That would be cool :)

I agree with that. That would be pretty awesome. But I think it would have to be on a console to pull that off.

Yeah that would be sick. Going through each gym, legendary, elite 4, battle frontier for each region. Hours and hours of gameplay. That would never end. Itd be really cool to come up with a story that follows through as well.

Yeah, that's really what they should have focused on rather than another 100+ new Pokemon that look like sick Dr Seuss-Digimon illegitimate love children.

One MASSIVE game that could really have a lasting value and turn the series into something great again would be amazing, but no, I'm sure it's going to be the same story in a new continent with new Pokemon. Again and again and again.

If this is really what they're doing, unless they have some BIG surprises up their sleeves, this is a pretty good sign that Nintendo is just milking this franchise for all its worth. You know what would be good? An official, multi-continent-spanning MMORPG. Pokemon is PERFECT for it, but no, let's just add 100 more Pokemon every year, but with better graphics and in a new country. Same story though. Is this formulaic yet? Still fun guys? :awesome:

I stopped after Fire Red. The reason being is that I never got a DS probably wont. Beside I can always play them on an emulator. Anyway I tired of it, its the same thing over and over again. A few new faces and new region. This is one of the reasons why I would love to go to an E3 convection and while Nintendo talk I could just yell at them and tell them all the potential they're pissing away by not doing MMO's and bring out the full potential of all of there franchises, except for Mario and Link.

Actually yes it is still fun. The story does change every time around somewhat. I love what they've been doing with new everything.

To be frank, I'm still excited for the newest generation; although frankly, the main reason I'm getting back into the games is because of Heart Gold/Soul Silver.

However, despite my excitement, I am not however, stoked in finding out who that secret Pokemon is. I swear to god, if it's either a Lucario or Shaymi evolution, I will shit bricks, and then proceed to throw them at Nintendo and Game Freak.

The storyline gets better and better with each installment (mainly based on D/P/Pl actually HAVING a decent story), but the quality of Pokemon does go down and the gameplay gets repetitive. But as standalones, each game is good, I think.

What would be so bad about a Lucario evolution though?

Yeah, I saw that earlier today. It's not as Digimon-ish as I was hoping. Not too bad, really (except for that ponytail. It looks so silly XD).
I see Serebii.net has no problem with leaving out spoiler warnings. Something tells me the new Pokemon being Ash's "shadow" or whatever was supposed to be a surprise. XP

And yeah, I know that as sequels, they continue to improve graphics and add in new gameplay mechanics, but you have to face that you're really playing the same game over and over and over. X__X;;
Like, I wouldn't be this critical of the sequels if they just threw something original into it every time. Every game has the exact same premise and overall the same gameplay. Just with a hundred more Pokemon to catch every time.

Yeah, I saw the Serebii article earlier today as well.

I actually like its preevolved form, 'tis quite cute ~ <3

As far as "playing the same old game over and over again" argument, to me, it doesn't feel like the same game over and over, if only for the simple fact that it's a new environment with new Pokemon. And, at least with FR//LG, and HG/SS, they've added new things to keep the game "fresh," so to speak. And to be frank, the gameplay isn't technically "old" as new attacks are added each generation, making it a little more challenging for those who fall out of the loop every couple of years (Like me.).

But that's just my two cents.

On the edge,
I look in.

Yeah seriously. Mostly everything changes. Its the same thing as in every sequel. The same gameplay and idea. But with new characters/pokemon, environment, and other stuff.

ANd I didnt get anything about Ash's shadow 0_o

In a way that's true you two, but I agree with Strax that in the case of Pokemon it's more of the same game than other sequels to different games.

Oh look, a new Pokemon. Zorua? Zoroark? Ok, the naming is brilliant, like always. But... Really? At least Digimon had the decency to stay mainly a show, and a video game franchise second. I ask you, what is the incentive in catching a whole new generation of Pocket Monsters?

I'm glad they stuck to being mostly a game for Pokemon. The show sucked. Period. Digimon as a show was good, as a game was pretty meh in comparison. Pokemon's the opposite.

But I agree. Not into having another generation of Pokemon- especially given the last two, which everyone here knows my opinion of. XD

I also agree with a few others in this topic- they should focus on making a huge Pokemon game and/or MMO before worrying about adding on 100+ Pokemon.

I completely didn't see this, I apologize for replying so late.

I honestly like Lucario the way it is now; to try and grow its evolution tree would just kill any enthusiasm I ever had for this Pokemon (And I'll be frank, I really do like Riolu and Lucario). Not to mention the fact that it's quite popular right now as it is; furthering it's influence in the games would do nothing more than either annoy people, or make the fans twice as rabid as they are now. For me, Lucario, both in terms of design, move pool, and stats is fine the way it is; it doesn't need to be changed anymore.
