Alright, so we've all seen the crazy acrobatic, incredibly powerful, dark Keyblade warrior that follows Master Xehanort around in Birth by Sleep. Dark helmet, black and red suit almost identical to Riku's Dark Form, etc.
Well who IS he, exactly? What's the secret behind the tinted glass?
I have my own theory for his identity, actually, and I'm pretty positive I'm almost spot-on with my reasoning.
Spoiler! --Click here to view--
Apprentice Vanitas is the Xehanort we know and love.
The white-haired, tan-skinned, scheming bastard who is the driving force behind ALL evil in the Kingdom Hearts universe thus far.
Reasoning against Terra or Master Xehanort being Xehanort/Ansem/Xemnas:
- Terra's hair is close to Xehanort's style, but not the same. At least not similar enough for Master Xehanort to have stolen his body and turned his hair white, and have it be identical to Xehanort/Ansem.
- Terra's eyes turning yellow, while interesting, is WAY too obvious of a trick. It is so blatantly "TERRA IS XEHANORT LAWL" that this must be a red herring. (Come on, all of the clues about Xion that they dropped on us in the trailers for 358/2 Days pointed toward Xion being Kairi's second Nobody, not what she actually was)
- Master Xehanort is, for obvious reasons, WAY too obvious to be the Xehanort we know.
Reasoning for Vanitas being Xehanort:
- Why else would they hide his face? After all of this time of revealing characters, Vanitas's appearance is still completely covered. We don't even know what color his skin is, for goodness' sake. If he's really NOT a character that we've seen before, they would at least show him with a broken helmet, revealing at least some of his features by now.
- Assuming Vanitas is Xehanort... When Xehanort possesses Riku, he takes on his original outfit, with slight variations.
- When Xehanort becomes a Heartless, after he stole his master Ansem's name, his Heartless wears the outfit of his former master, Master Xehanort, possibly adding a bit of symbolism to his theft of his master's identity in this new state of power.
- Riku's Soul Eater and Way to the Dawn both display the blue monster eyes that are also featured on Vanitas's Keyblade. Interesting that Vanitas and Riku, formerly possessed by Xehanort, use similar weaponry.
- When Xehanort is discovered by Ansem the Wise, he remembers absolutely nothing but the name Xehanort. It is not stated that he remembers that his OWN name is Xehanort, just that he remembers the name. I think the name of his master would be pretty important, and he does seem to have a thing for stealing his masters' names.
Any thoughts?
